Shining a Spotlight on: Sophia

Sophia 3.5

Everyone discovers Nourish Hub for different reasons, but each person who walks through the door brings joy and light into our community. Sophia is one such person. Having met the team at a mental health workshop last year, Sophia felt that Nourish Hub could be a space where she could find support for her own mental health, while learning new skills and feeling that she belonged somewhere important within the community.

Having Sophia at the Hub has been amazing for the team but also great for Sophia. She has shared that “It has helped me to build confidence, learn new skills and develop additional knowledge while forging interactions with different people. I appreciate the positive interactions with staff and customers, while keeping my mind focused on any tasks of the day.”

Sophia brings a huge amount of experience to her volunteer role, having worked in education with children and adults across SEN and ESL. It’s been a privilege to see how she has implemented her existing skills across regular kitchen duties, operating the front of house and representing Nourish Hub at awareness events. We have also seen how Sophia has expanded her skill set, learning more about the background workings of Nourish Hub and supporting the team delivering cooking courses.

“Sophia has accumulated many skills whilst volunteering with us, but she has also brought so much to our initiative. Having done a few more courses in the last year in IT as well as in Mental health, we have no doubt that she has the recipe for success and any team that she will apply to work with will be lucky to have her. “Andreea, Deputy Hub Manager.

Looking forward, Sophia has shared that “there is nothing I would change! After having many conversations and discussions with you, I would say that we are pretty much on the same page, in terms of where I want to be and looking forward to the progression of The Hub and any contributions, I can make to help it to flourish. Thank you for all your support”
