Cooking for a Cause at Nourish Hub

We have welcomed some incredible organisations to Nourish Hub in the last month to participate in our Cooking For a Cause sessions; corporate volunteering and teambuilding days. Team members from EY, and the International Hotel Group (IHG)  joined us to spend time making a difference in their community.

Cooking For a Cause provides colleagues with a unique opportunity to connect with teammates in a new and meaningful setting—through food. Whether for team building, an away day, or simply spending time together, participants will bake cakes and prepare nutritious, healthy meals for local residents in need. This experience not only strengthens team bonds but also offers a chance to learn new cooking skills while giving back to the community. Nourish Hub’s team ensure a memorable, impactful day that brings people together through the shared joy of cooking and service.

“It was the perfect way to give back, bond with colleagues and pick up a few culinary skills and tips to reduce food waste.”

Helen, Nourish Hub’s Education and Events Coordinator leads the Cooking For a Cause sessions with activities dictated by the ingredients available and the needs of our community. When we welcomed EY on 24th September, the team were put through their paces, making over 100 muffins that were distributed at our community lunch. No mean feat!

“The baking session was really fun, especially knowing it would be eaten by the community”

Both groups were eager to tackle the challenge of making a healthy, balanced and tasty midweek meal in under an hour, using a selection of rescued fresh fruit, vegetables and store cupboard ingredients.

Helen tasked the team from IHG with an equally demanding challenge, as well as taking part in a food waste quiz, offering a fantastically informative presentation about UKHarvest and the wider operation, where Nourish Hub fits in and why the work we do is so vital to our community.

“I have been telling my family about the 4.5m tonnes of waste from households, the most commonly wasted food items and educating them on how we can do more!”

Helen and the team at Nourish Hub are ‘fun, educational, welcoming and inclusive’ with a breadth of expertise across nutrition, health and food waste. Helen has shared that ‘Our Cooking For a Cause sessions are so much more than a corporate get together. We hope to provide a space for people to combine their compassion for their community with their love of food, cooking and eating; to learn more about what we offer our community and give everyone a chance to make a difference to the lives of those around us by making fresh and ambient food accessible in challenging times. We invite you to get in touch and have a chat about how you can make a difference, whilst learning more about your community.”
