Summer Highlights 2024

It’s been an amazing summer at Nourish Hub, and although it’s not over yet, schools are opening again and we’re reflecting on some of the highlights of the last two months.

Work Experience

We were very lucky to be supported by two work experience students this summer, Nika and Isabel. They joined us from two local secondary schools and worked with staff across the charity getting a sample of work experience from Media and Comms, Food Education and Partnerships to Volunteer Coordination and Operations.

Family Fun Day

On the 25th of July, with support from Hammersmith & Fulham’s Summer in the City, LMPAction and Hammersmith & Fulham Borough Council and our colleagues at UKHarvest, we ran a Family Fun Day where the Hub was open from 10am until 7pm! We hosted workshops on pizza making, fruit kebabs, plant growing, sunflower art murals and created a picnic collage. Alongside our regular Community Lunch we hosted our monthly Community Supper!

Children’s Cookery Classes

This summer we ran 9 days of activities for children aged between 7 to 16 funded by King’s Coronation Youth Fund. Classes varied from ‘Fun with Food’ to a course developed to help children with no kitchen experience, ‘Learn to Cook’. We cooked Hidden Vegetable Mac n’ Cheese, Stuffed Peppers with Couscous, Breakfast Muffins, Mini Frittatas and Potato Wedges, Vegetable Pasties, Danish Pastries and Rainbow Stir Fry. The team taught classes on Food Waste, Balanced Diets, Food Labels, Menu Creation, Seasonal Eating and Plant Growing.

Appeeling Art 2 with Karmabank

We were part of Karmabank London ‘Appeeling’ Art competition again this year, following the amazing success in 2023. Entries came from as far afield as Ukraine. The winner was announced during August’s Community Supper, but everyone that took part made an incredible effort. The winner for 2024 was Joud Tarwaneh for their amazing Red Pepper image in the overall adult category and Khatheeja Ghouse for their still life creation. Congratulations from all of us at Nourish Hub. Thanks to Karmabank London for letting Nourish Hub share in the joy of art and art creation.

At Nourish Hub, we believe good food is just the beginning. It’s a route to better health, stronger community ties, and a sense of belonging. That’s why, this spring, we piloted a new project that combined our cookery course with a free on-site creche for children under five so parents could participate fully, without worrying about childcare.
"Meals and a Chat" is a services provided by Nourish Hub in partnership with the Council's Adult Social Care department. This service goes beyond the traditional "Meals on Wheels" service by offering a greater variety of meal options and social interaction through wellbeing checks during delivery.
Nourish Hub welcomed 72 young people aged 8–12 from local schools into our training kitchen for six days of hands-on learning, discovery, and delicious food at our ‘Fun with Food’ clubs.
